So, in January I checked back in and thought I could give LJing another try after 18 months of hiatus... and what happened, 6 more months of radio silence. But here I am now and just like I planned in the beginning of the year, I'm gonna post only on my crafting and sewing produce. So here you have them, 3 new entries (yes two below this one) with some things I made lately.
Today I got around sewing a protective bag for my new laptop. I used the lining of the previous bag I made (entry on that here) and then pondered awhile amidst my piles of fabric on what to use for the top. And then came across a pair of old jeans that were useless in the original purpose for all the holes in them but which I had not had the heart to throw out as they used to be my favourite pair.
Some time and ferocious sewing later, I got myself a new laptop bag. For some reason or the other LJ is not willing to import photos from Flickr into the posts (maybe it's upset I haven't been around lately), so you'll have to follow this link to see the pics on the wonderful end result.

For some reason my Flickr photo isn't showing up here, so click on the link to see latest version of Kitty I sewed for my god daughter Nelli for her first birthday.

LOL, looking at this blog, you would think my life stopped at getting married. It certainly did not... There was just so much to "report" on the subject of the wedding that after it was all over and done with I was not so keen on writing this journal... and then I guess I was using facebook more and more and what not...
Anyways, reading a friend's post here today I felt the need to rekindle my relationship with LJ. Let's see how long it'll last this time around, but my honest intention is to keep posting photos of my creations and thrift discoveries... there have been quite a many during the last 18 months... and more will be headed my way, I'm sure. So, let's start with this hair accessory I made to go with my flapper dress. Not a very good picture, but I can't be bothered right now to take another one, it would kill the enthusiasm I have for this update. XD Anyways, hopefully I'll post some more soon enough.
Made this as I was not gonna pay 20 euros for something less beautiful made in China. Some of the things I had already (pearls, pin, tulle), the rest I bought for less than 5 euros: the button, sequin string, feathers.

So, I really got into trouble with the original wedding dress plan... there was too much going on with that ornament fabric... it was all over the place... and then it started to look very bad as the seams didn't look nice... so I just took scissors and cut that fabric off... of the remaining satin, I made my beautiful dress, much simpler... still needs some finishing touches, but pretty much done now...

Yeah, so before you ask, worked also on my thesis this week... Wedding is sort of on the hold, Henry's workplace is going through cooperation negotiations... I don't know how to use that terminology exactly, anyways, most likely all employees will be temporarily laid off (this kind of arrangement I hear is practically unique to Finland: "Laying off means temporary interruption of work and remuneration on the basis of an employer decision or an agreement made on the employer's initiative, while the employment relationship continues in other respects." from Finlex.fi)... but for how long, no one knows... the negotiation will be finished in six weeks, but by that time we should also have made the final arrangements related to wedding... however, if the lay off is for a longer period, we probably can't afford to have any wedding... I mean we are still getting married and we are still gonna celebrate with friends and family... we just can't afford the party. :( I don't know how it will turn out... well, we get the ceremony at the church and the wedding reception place free of charge so it would be stupid not to use them... it's only the catering we won't be able to afford if things go bad (if this does happen the little savings we have for the wedding will go for loan payments...)
So yeah, but I'm still gonna make a dress, I was just calculating that the fabric won't be much more than 50 euros, so what the hell...
( tried out variations for the dress design )

Been making prototypes of wedding favour boxes (chocolates inside!) that will also work as placecards... I think I finally got it right. :)
I used this origami box instruction I found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wO07skEa uo

A friend of mine showed me some fabrics she had and I thought the satin and lace together would make a perfect evening gown... We went through all my sewing magazines to find the perfect dress for her. I ended up putting together the pattern from two different dress patterns and sewed the dress for her.( Pictures behind the cut! )
I tried out the test pattern I made for the possible bolero to go with the wedding dress. Had some left over fabric from a dress I made a couple years back... the actual bolero would be of black ornaments on white background kinda fabric... or then I'll make a black lace bolero, still undecided between the two.
